Health Concern: Nausea
How to use Quease Ease?
Our products are inhalers, meaning that you inhale the oil vapors through your nose (and not by ingesting them or putting them on your skin).
We’ve created a handy personal diffuser that twists open, revealing a gap between the top and base. Place this gap under your nose and inhale deeply. Easy as that.
Twist the cap gently, place under the nose, and inhale. Repeat as often as needed. Do not ingest.
How it works
Inhaling essential oils works much like alcohol prep pads do: they interrupt the nausea cycle due to the high content of natural alcohol.
Additionally, the components in the oils that we have selected have powerful anti-inflammatory, antispasmodic and anxiolytic properties, which work directly on the stomach to allow it to relax and return to normal function. Finally, the process of inhalation means that molecules suspended in the vapor travel through your nose and directly to your brain, where they are rapidly processed by olfactory receptors, which is why it works faster than taking a pill.
Each inhaler is formulated with oils that are combined to target a specific concern based on their healing properties, which you can learn more about on our essential oils page.

The Essential Collection
We’ve combined 4 superior quality essential oils with 30 years of medical knowledge, and distilled every drop into product design that has been crafted to suit the life you lead.
Every one of the chosen essential oils in the Soothing Scents range contains beneficial molecules with innumerable healing benefits. We’ve searched far and wide to ensure that ours are of the purest and highest quality. We work solely with sources and manufacturers that are sustainable, ethical and adhere to the highest possible standards.
Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia)
Lavender has many benefits for patients experiencing nausea in the perioperative setting. It has a strong component of anxiolysis, which is very helpful in reducing the stress of nausea and vomiting after surgical procedures. Lavender is absorbed quite rapidly when inhaled, achieving relaxation and reduction of anxiety via a serotonergic neurotransmission pathway.
Spearmint (Mentha spicata)
Spearmint has similar antiemetic benefits as peppermint but may prove effective for longer periods of time. A recent study found it to be effective for reducing events of both nausea and vomiting. It also contains menthol but it is the alcohol molecule, carvone, in Spearmint that provides its distinctive pleasant aroma.
Peppermint (Mentha piperita)
Peppermint has been a classic essential oil choice for the treatment of nausea for many years. Studies have shown it to be effective for reducing PONV (post-operative nausea and vomiting, chemotherapy-induced nausea, pregnancy-related nausea, and colonic spasms during colonoscopy. Peppermint is believed to exert its influence on the gastric lining and colon through its alcohol compounds, menthone, and menthol.
Ginger (Zingiber officinale)
Ginger is a traditional remedy for nausea. The molecule Zingiberene is believed to play a role in its anti-inflammatory and anti-emetic properties. The botanical form of ginger has been shown to be effective for PONV (post-operative nausea and vomiting), chemotherapy-induced nausea, pregnancy-related nausea, and motion sickness.
I have allergies. Can I use Soothing Scents?
Thankfully, allergic reactions to inhaled essential oils are extremely rare. The liquid form of essential oils have been known to cause skin irritation, but the inhalation of essential oil vapor has an undisputed safety record throughout the world. Unless you are allergic to the specific essential oils used, it should be entirely safe.
I have a medical condition / am taking other medication. Can I still use Soothing Scents products? Will it interfere with medication?
No. Soothing Scents products won’t interfere with any other medication, and safe to use for people with conditions like pregnancy, or going through radiation and chemotherapy.
Are Soothing Scents products FDA approved?
Because Quease EASE is not a drug, it does not have to be controlled or dispensed by the pharmacy. The essential oils in Quease EASE are recognized by the FDA as safe to consume, requiring no additional regulation or classification when inhaled. Quease EASE is simply regarded as a supply item such as an alcohol prep pad or an emesis basin.
About Soothing Scents
Soothing Scents is a different kind of wellness company.
The idea originated from a question about a problem we were looking to solve: How can one ease the discomfort experienced by patients in post-operative situations?
That led to many more questions: What would it take to bridge the gap between complementary and conventional medicine? What would a company that does this look like? How could those living in a fast-paced, modern world find natural wellness solutions that had medical credibility and represented the way they lived?
And so, Soothing Scents was formed.
Our origins are 100% medical, our ingredients 100% natural, and our mission is to create products that enable people to carry on with their bold, and inspired lives.
The Soothing Scents story goes all the way back to 2004 when nurse anesthetist Wendy Nichols began blending essential oils in her kitchen as an alternative way to help her patients deal with nausea after surgery.
“It was distressing to see so many of my patients suffer from nausea and not be able to offer something that didn’t cause unwanted side effects, which many medications do,” says Nichols, who used her decades-long background in medicine to find a solution that was medically safe, and scientifically sound.
What began as a homemade remedy quickly became a standard hospital supply, and finally, a growing business. Together with her brother, Roy Nichols, Wendy founded Soothing Scents: a small but big-hearted establishment that produces essential oil inhalers designed with the safety and science that healthcare environments demand.
Today, our flagship blend Quease EASE is used in over 1,000 hospitals and thousands of homes across America, by expectant mothers, boaters, nervous air travelers, road trip enthusiasts, deep sea divers, frequent flyers, chemotherapy patients, and those looking for a natural way to achieve mental focus and a better way to relax.
